New York Winter - Central Park Snow - By Vivienne Gucwa

There is something

undeniably magical that occurs

as the snow falls

swirling and twirling in the air until

it hits the ground heavy with the weight of a thousand promises:

exultations and dreams held close to the earth

in the stillness between wintry pauses

like a snowglobe resting between giddy shakes of joy.

Bow Bridge is one of Central Park’s most iconic structures. It was built between 1859 and 1862 and is shaped like an archer's bow. This particular image was taken during a snowstorm in Central Park, New York City. Bow Bridge sits covered by a beautiful layer of freshly fallen snow as the buildings that line Central Park West sit in the distance just past the snow-laden trees.

New York City Skyline - Chrysler Building and Skyscrapers - By Vivienne Gucwa

Looking out over New York City from up high, the skyscrapers rise from the ground proudly as if they are marching towards the horizon where the city and the sky meet briefly and where steel dissolves into light.

This particular cityscape features the skyscrapers of midtown Manhattan including the MetLife building and the Chrysler Building. To the right of the Chrysler Building is the 59th Street Bridge (also referred to as the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge) and beyond the skyscrapers in the foreground sits Central Park and midtown east.

Every drop of rain paints the city with an otherworldly light: tiny illuminated universes casting their glow onto the city with every luminous splatter.

Wet earth in the form of darkened concrete springs forth new life in the form of urban wanderers who migrate quickly from one patch of earth to another as their wet reflections echo their movements.

And after the day has unleashed its deluge of light, the city soaks in the infused-afterglow.
