We dream of springtime

with our eyes closed in winter

as snow turns from white to pink

cascading down on the backs of our eyelids

in a slideshow of a moment

that is hard to grasp onto

but difficult to forget.

There is nothing quite like springtime in New York City. This is a view of the cherry trees that line the Bridle Path in Central Park. Like autumn, spring is barely a lingering whisper that brushes up against our faces for what seems like a second.

This was taken on a frigid, moody day in the winter looking down the pedestrian walkway of the Williamsburg Bridge in New York City.

The Williamsburg Bridge connects the Lower East Side in Manhattan with Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

When the sky seduces the city with its tears of happiness, the streets swoon illuminated by the glow of nearby lights.

Broken-hearted alleys fill up: lovers with empty recesses in their hearts soak in the warm afterglow of what the sky has wrought.

When the day stretches out

leaving a trail of sighs

in its wake,

the sky

and the infinite

slowly implode

folding themselves into one another

until all that is left

is a never-ending horizon

reaching out towards

the rest of forever.

This is a view of Central Park and the skyscrapers of midtown Manhattan as seen from above. It was taken from the top of the Empire State Building on an impossibly perfect morning. Upper Manhattan sits in the distance with the Chrysler Building and Queens to the right. The trees of Bryant Park are peeking out in the bottom-left part of this image.

Chinatown- Under the Manhattan Bridge - New York City Street - By Vivienne Gucwa

When winter shifts into spring, the light shifts too.

Stark, short afternoons that end too abruptly morph vivid, warm afternoons that linger until the sky relents.

This was taken on a stark, short afternoon that was only mildly flirting with spring a week or so ago before the city erupted into full-on springtime mode. This is one of my favorite parts of Chinatown under the Manhattan Bridge.

The New York City Skyline and the Statue of Liberty at Sunset - Under the Brooklyn Bridge - By Vivienne Gucwa

Every evening, the sun slides slowly down along the sky gleaming and floating above the city.

Reaching through the clouds to look at its reflection of liquid gold in the water below, it pauses.

And in those brief moments, it's as if the earth has stopped revolving just long enough for the sun and the city to kiss.

This was taken while on a boat in the East River passing under the Brooklyn Bridge. The skyline is the lower Manhattan skyline featuring the skyscrapers of the Financial District and Pier 17 at South Street Seaport. To the left in the distance, sits the Statue of Liberty.

New York City Skyline - Empire State Building and Midtown Manhattan Skyscrapers - By Vivienne Gucwa

Being above the skyscrapers of midtown Manhattan makes the mind and heart pause.

It's hard to take in the immensity of the view especially after sunset when all of the city's lights flicker like stars in a sky suspended upside down over an ocean full of clouds.

But, after a few moments, something else happens.

The mind reels, tipsy after taking its first, lingering sip of the cityscape.

And, with giddy eagerness, questions and curiosity start to take over as the eyes wander over every roof and into every window, past the fast moving traffic that zips across the city streets like shooting stars.

How many dreams are bursting forth, ready to propel themselves from the minds of urban dreamers: out from inside the walls, offices, apartments, and houses that contain them?

How many hopes are being uttered at the same time?

How many love songs are being sung?

How many hearts are being broken as other hearts are connecting?

And as the sun dips below the horizon letting the urban stars hang brightly in their own universe, the city speeds on at its own pace as someone else begins pondering variations on the same series of thoughts...

This is a view of the Empire State Building and the New York City skyline as seen from Top of the Rock. It's a long exposure and the view is looking south towards lower Manhattan. One World Trade Center (or 1 WTC - also known as the Freedom Tower) can be seen in the distance to the right of the Empire State Building.

For Two - Autumn- Central Park - New York City- By Vivienne Gucwa

That chill in the air wrapping itself around trees like an overflowing scarf , the crispness on the breeze chilling faces with its autumn kisses, trees displaying their decorated limbs in golden shades of serenity: Autumn.

Cinnamon sticks resting languidly in steaming mugs of hot apple cider, pumpkin-orange colored wishes carried on the scent of firewood, frosted sighs of contentment exhaled in long cool breaths, leaves sounding their crackled whispers of surrender, earth reeling from summer preparing for its long engagement with the snow-covered proclamations of winter: Autumn.
